Shirur Election: Ajit Pawar Group’s Mauli Katke Wins by 74,550 Votes

Pune, November 23, 2024: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) of Ajit Pawar’s group has won a big victory in the Shirur Assembly constituency. NCP candidate Dnyaneshwar alias Mauli Katke defeated sitting MLA Ashok Pawar of the NCP-Sharad Chandra Pawar group by 74,550 votes.

The victory has given the Ajit Pawar-led faction a huge political base, especially after winning this key seat in the NCP’s traditional stronghold.

Despite the fact that Ashok Pawar of the Sharad Pawar group was an experienced leader, the feelings of the voters turned in favor of the Ajit Pawar group. Dr. Amol Kolhe, MP from Shirur Lok Sabha constituency, was in the field to campaign for Ashok Pawar. However, the voters reposed faith in him.

Polling data

The Shirur constituency recorded a voter turnout of 68.50 per cent of the 4.55 lakh registered voters. The huge turnout of voters was the key to victory.

Political significance

The Shirur seat is considered a symbol of NCP’s dominance. However, Sharad Pawar’s party has suffered a setback. The victory has given the Ajit Pawar faction an opportunity to show its strength in the intra-party struggle.

Mauli Katke’s big win has changed the political equations in Shirur. This victory of Ajit Pawar’s group will help reshape his influence in the upcoming elections.
